Composition

Children need to be taught writing and composition in a logical manner. This process begins with the copy work they do in first and second grade, and continues with dictation and narration. Students learn to read passages and to make outlines from these passages. They are then instructed to set aside the passage, and write from their outline. This teaches them to model good writing. Creative writing follows only after they have mastered the basics and learned from the greats.

We have found the methods and materials of the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) to be most effective in teaching writing skills to our students.
