Music and Art

Classical music and art are an important part of St. Anthony Academy’s curriculum.

In music appreciation, students become familiar with classical composers and their most well-known compositions. They also learn songs from a variety of different eras and cultures and perform in a musical pageant every year in January.

In addition to the above curriculum, we utilize the Ward Method of Music instruction to teach our students how to sing. The Ward Method of Music Instruction is a progressive method of teaching elementary school children – through vocal instruction – music theory, composition and conducting. The Method was developed to teach American Catholic school children the fundamentals of music so that they would be able to sing the vast repertoire of sacred music which is a part of the Roman Catholic Church’s tradition. The Ward Method is unique in that it has a basis in Gregorian chant.

In art appreciation, students learn about famous artists and study their masterpieces.

They are guided in sketching pictures in their journals and timelines.
