Science

The goal of science in the early grades is inspire a child’s wonder and curiosity about the world around them. Taking children on nature walks, collecting leaves, shells or insects and then learning their names not only brings them great pleasure, but also introduces them to the science of classification. Learning and applying the scientific method with simple experiments teaches them logical thinking.

As children enter later elementary school, the goal of science becomes preparation for the high school science subjects of physics, chemistry and biology. With this in mind, our students begin specific studies of earth science, life science and physical science in the later elementary grades.

Book List:

  • Harcourt Science (grades 4-6)
  • Behold and See Science Series (Catholic Heritage Curricula)

"The aim of natural science is not simply to accept the statements of others, but to investigate the causes that are at work in nature."
