Drama

The study of Shakespeare, his life and his works, must be a part of any classical curriculum. Exposing students to Shakespeare at a young age helps them to enjoy his works and not be afraid of them or think of them as being too difficult to understand.

Since Shakespeare is not meant to be read, but to be performed, St. Anthony Academy has an annual Shakespeare Pageant in the spring every year in which students as young as fourth grade participate. We also familiarize our students with some of Shakespeare’s most famous lines, and to the monologues from his most famous characters, requiring memorization of parts of them.

"The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king."
Shakespeare, Hamlet
